ART 1011: Studio projects in visual literacy; fundamentals of the structure of two-dimensional works of art; principles of organization and elements of art; role of the visual arts in society.
For this project, we walked around campus and took pictures of organic landscapes to recreate. I chose to draw the columns in the quad. I liked the symmetry the columns created which show the trees behind them. For this project I used watercolor on bristol board.
For this project we chose a picture which we felt a specific color was used to evoke an emotion. On the right is the original picture that I chose which I felt evoked a very mellow and calm feeling. After we chose a picture, we had to select an artist and adapt our work to their style. I chose Matisse because he always uses bright colors and I also chose some of the patterns he used in his paintings to surround my drawing. For my project I used oil pastels and colored pencils on bristol board.
For the project on the left, we created a viewfinder and made 90 thumbnails of different letters and numbers cropped to different proportions. For the project, I chose the letters, numbers, and symbols: 2, &, X, and E. We used ink wash and bristol board. For the project on the right we created different compositions describing different words using four black squares of different sizes. The words we had to describe are as follows: Order, Congested, Bold, Increase, Playful and Tension.
